Tried It On: The Classic Denim Shirt

The denim shirt has been a firm fixture on the fashion scene for a few years now, but in 2013 it’s practically a  legal requirement to own one.

I wear mine open over dresses, tucked into skater skirts, decorated with statement necklaces and, lately, with denim on the bottom half too. Crumbs.

My favourite is a battered old Levis one that I share with Tim, that he bought in a charity shop a few years ago for 50p to wear to an 80s fancy dress party. We argue over who gets to wear it all the time. He says “But I BOUGHT it” (and yes, that would stand up in a court of law), but I say “I’m the one who started wearing it every day and made you realise it was actually cool”. We probably ought to have drawn up some kind of rota by now.

But 6’2 cutie-pie Mandy may just have sorted out our marital issues once and for all. She’s found a very pretty denim shirt from Next (£20), with long enough sleeves for the leggiest of lovelies.

Mandy writes, “The sleeves are super long (they cover my wrists!!!) And it is long enough on the torso to tuck into a skirt. I love it!!! And it’s not from their tall section. The shirt fits true to size, but it’s a generous 14. I always find places like Next and M&S good for my self esteem as I am more often a 12 (compared to H&M where I am a 14). I have quite broad shoulders though, and while the 12 fit, and gave a great silhouette, the 14 was a little more comfortable.”

Thanks Mandy! And I am desperate for your Red or Dead specs too. Think it’s time to give up the contacts…

From one Mandy to another, thank you! It’s impossible to find shirts that hit the shoulders at the right point. xox
