Tried It On: Summer Skirt

5’11 ATTT reader Charlotte tweeted me a picture of her seriously summery palm tree print skirt from Boohoo. At just 12 quid, it’s a Marbella must-have.

Top marks for the coral nails too petal.

Cheap and Cheerful

Hey leggy lovelies,

The Nine West competition closes at midnight tonight, so make sure you get your entry in! One of you lovely lot is going to win yourself a £100 voucher. I have been absolutely blown away by the honesty and heart-felt words in the entries received so far, and I’ve had a good old knowing chuckle at some of your memories of being the “awkward one”. Well worth a read if you haven’t had a look already… some might even make you weep a happy tear.

What with it being June and all, the sun was almost kind enough to shine in London yesterday. Which was enough of an excuse for wine outside the Charlotte Street Hotel with the girls and a summery outfit.

I’m definitely feeling the post-holiday, pre-tax bill pinch, so these recent buys are seriously bargainous. The whole outfit below cost £60 (although I did cheat by paying Vietnamese prices on the shoes).

Pretty laser cut details are all over bags at the moment, and I spied this seriously bold pink number whilst doing my trolley dash in Sainsburys. (If you forgo the brand names in the condiments aisle and buy economy loo roll, you can totally justify the £20 spend).

New Look’s 3-pack of Tall T-shirts is well worth the investment. Although they’re not quite as long as the “super vest” in Miss Selfridge, They work out at just over 4 quid each and you can dress them up with statement necklaces, like this bright blue one. I’ve tucked mine into this floral New Look skirt (it’s not from the Tall range but the proportions looked reasonable on the website so I gambled).

I had these leather sandals custom-made to wear with my maxi dresses and I love them, even if my toe is doing a “Julianne Moore” in the picture above. They’re a bit like my Henry Holland ones I featured ages ago that sadly died a death after getting caught in a pavement slab. Sigh.

Tall Top, New Look £12.99 for 3 pack/ Skirt, New Look £16.99/ Tall Biker Jacket, Topshop £58/ Necklace, New Look £9.99/ Bag, Sainsburys £20/ Shoes, Custom-made in Vietnam £10

What do you think? And would you like to see some more budget-friendly pieces on the blog or is it leggy luxury you’re after?

Tried It On: Spots and Stripes

Gotta love a leggy lady with an eye for a bargain. Two great cheap-as-chip finds on the blog for you today.

The first comes from Twitter user @headinbook, who picked up this pretty leopard-spotted maxi dress in Sainsburys. She tweets “It covers my feet & I’m 5”11. Only £18 too!”

And the second is a striking summer maxi skirt, found by 6’2 Sarah. Sarah writes,  “I had to share this skirt I bought in Matalan (I was mooching with a short friend and if anything thought I might buy a bangle or cushion). It’s £14 and has a folded over waist band, that I unfolded so it can sit lower on the hips without any belly showing. It’s in a lovely soft swishy jersey fabric. I have 43 inch hip bone to floor measurement.”

Thanks girls. If you’ve found an item of clothing that works for us leggy lovelies — basement bargainous or obscenely expensive — get your emails in to or tweet @tallthings

WIN a pair of Shoesissima Shoes

Ever seen a shoe competition in a  blog or magazine and thought, “Yup, I’d LOVE to win that beautiful pair of shoes… but as if there’ll be a pair in my size…”

Me too.

So I thought I’d right some wrongs.

This week, All the Tall things is offering you the chance to win a gorgeous pair of chunky-heeled sandals worth £79.99, courtesy of lovely large-size shoe brand Shoesissima.

Chunky-heeled sandals are everywhere thanks to the likes of Isabel Marant, Marni and Rag & Bone showcasing such styles on their S/S runways, but there are very few pairs available for us larger-footed ladies.

Enter the leather platform called “Kim” . If you’ve read my previous shoe posts, you’ll know I have something of a nudey fetish already, so this pair has fitted in to the family rather well. And it’s so versatile. Here are three ways I’ll be rocking mine this summer… (links to other products included where available.)

Beer Garden with the Mates

Top, Skirt & Bag, Primark/ Hat, River Island £16/ Necklace, Ark/ Bracelets, Republic

Date with the Boy

Top, Warehouse/ Tall Jeans, Topshop £40/ Earrings, Miss Selfridge/ Bag, Primark

Marbs* with the Girls

Dress, ASOS £25/ Necklace, H+M/ Bag, Next

*Technically I’ll be going to France with the girls this year… but I do wish I’d had this outfit when we were in Marbella…

All you need to do to be in with a chance of winning, is drop a comment below telling us what you’d wear your pair with.

Good luck girlies! 🙂

Ts & Cs

The competition is open to all Leggy Lovelies, regardless of where in the world they live. You must include your email address in the relevant box with your comment, but this will NOT be visible and will only be used if you are the winner and we need to contact you regarding your prize. Shoes are available in UK sizes 8-12. Regrettably we cannot offer bespoke sizes. Competition closes at midnight on 18/4/13. Winner will be announced on the All the Tall things Facebook Page on 19/4/13.

Birthday Lunch

If there’s ever a time when you can eat yourself senseless, it’s your birthday (or Christmas, or a hangover day, or a Tuesday…). I turned 28 today, so I went out for a lovely lunch with the mother to celebrate.

As well as taking me out for some insanely yum grub (I recommend The Canopy in Epsom… have the duck), Mum also played photographer this morning and snapped me in her garden using my snazzy new birthday camera from the hubby.

I have a couple of new pieces to share with you, like this lovely knee-length pencil skirt from ASOS. I love the current trend for all things monochrome and geometric, and this one, with its on trend front-split (“No Mum, I know how to put my clothes on, I’m 28… it’s supposed to look like that…”) is perfect for leggy lovelies.

I’ve added an old Mango blouse and Next jacket, and accessorised with my new ASOS clutch bag.

Top, Mango/ Jacket, Next/ Skirt, ASOS £32/ Bag, ASOS £35/ Boots, Topshop (Up to a Euro 42 — a LARGE 42), £45

Now I need to decide what to wear for birthday drinks tomorrow night. Any ideas??

LTS Maxi

Hi Leggy Lovelies,

Just a quick post today — but I wanted to share my outfit because we all know how ruddy hard it is to find a maxi skirt, and I’m slightly obsessed with this electric blue pleated one (£55) from Long Tall Sally.

There are so many ways to wear it — roughed-up and casual with a biker and trainers, pretty and ethereal with beaded sandals and chunky jewellery, or even with a crisp shirt or blazer for the office.

It’s so long that  I can wear it with my heeled ankle-boots, and the elasticated waist means that you can rock it whether you’re 5’11 or 7 foot … just pull it up around your waist if you’re shorter, or wear low-slung on the hips if you’re at the taller end of tall. (You know the drill by now…)

I’ve worn it with my Topshop biker (£58) — which I seem to be wearing every day in this changeable, in-betweeny weather — and billowing butterfly-print Zara scarf (£19.99) for an extra pop of colour.

Anyone else found any pretty maxi skirts/ dresses? I’m off on my holibobs soon and looking for some seriously pretty summer frocks. Share share!

Tried It On: Primark Princess

You loved Sarah’s Ten Pound Tall Dress from Primark, and it seems our favourite budget store is churning out more pretty midis that are ideal for us leggy lovelies.

5’11 ATTT reader Lauren has found a chic stripey pencil skirt and colour-blocked it to perfection with red heels and a simple tee.

5’11 Lauren writes, “I found this fab skirt in Primark for an equally faaaab price of £12! I love the midi skirt/dress trend as it means I can find skirts and dresses in the normal people clothes shops. Yay!”

Not checked out Primarni’s long-length offerings yet? You might even find something in the denim section that suits. ATTT reader Rachel recently wrote to me saying, “I emailed you a while back with my whinge about Primark not doing their non-standard colours in long, and guess what, they now do! Hooray! They have some rather nice dark green ones for the bargain price of £7! Yay!”

And if it’s budget fashion you’re after, check out New Look’s newly re-launched Tall range. I love the belted maxi, bodycon midi and skater-style dressesLovely to see a Tall range resurrected from the ashes, right girlies?

90s Grunge

Best get yourself a fizzy Panda and a Pop Tart. There’s a WHOLE lotta 90s goin’ down in this post.

Forget the bubblegum pop princess style of the Spice Girls though, because this year’s 90s trend takes inspiration from a very different scene. Think Nirvana, Hole, Mother Love Bone and Soundgarden.

Are you scared yet?

If you need some serious style inspiration, watch epic nineties films like The Craft and Cameron  Crowe’s 1992 romcom Singles. If you haven’t seen the latter, it’s a good ‘un… not least for the very cool Pearl Jam soundtrack. (My husband will give me a lot of respect points for saying that…)

I found a gorgeous skull skirt from H+M (be careful not to put your heel through it, as I nearly did a million times), and wore it with my denim Forever 21 shirt and Topshop biker.

If you’re looking for a super long-line vest (aren’t we always?), this grey one is from Miss Selfridge where you can currently buy 2 for £12.

The chunky necklace (and gold tone ring) hail from H&M, while the giant perspex cocktail ring is from Miss Selfridge.

Anyone game for grunging it up with me? And which of you leggy lovelies remember wearing this look the first time around?

Leather & Fur

Maybe I’ve been watching a bit too much Game of Thrones, but this winter all I want to do is layer up with tactile leather and fur pieces.

If – like me – you prefer the faux variety, then have a butchers (of the vegetarian kind) at today’s outfit.

I featured this faux leather Topshop skirt (£38) a little while ago and have barely taken it off since. It just works with everything. If you haven’t got yours yet, then make sure you do before it sells out. You will suddenly find yourself wearing so many of the tops/ jackets/ shoes in your wardrobe that you never had anything to wear with.

I actually picked up the fluffy, Angora-style gilet when I was on a Christmas shopping trip to France with the girls in December. It’s from a shop called Jennyfer and is currently less than 20 euros.

There are loads on the highstreet right now; try Zara’s (£25.99) for a classic, long-line piece. Belt it in at the waist and keep things fairly slim-fit on the bottom half to retain a bit of shape. Gilets of any kind are great for us tall women because we’ve got the length to balance out the extra bulk, and they add a bit of interest to a willowy silhouette.

The burgundy knit is from Ark, and the necklace and blouse are oldies from H&M.

Bit of reader style coming up for you shortly. If you want to share any of your outfit photos, then send an email to

Anyone else addicted to Game of Thrones? No spoilers please! I’ve still got two episodes left of my Season 1 box-set. Not seen it? Get involved… it’s ludicrously watchable, and you may find yourself falling for the charms of a dwarf.

Yes, really.

Christmas Prezzie Show and Tell

Hello gorgeous leggy lovelies,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your friends and families. I got a bit over-excited and threw on all my Christmas prezzies for today’s post.

I’ve been quite enamoured with Topshop’s Tall offerings of late (pretty circle skirts, midi dresses, snuggly jumpers and a bit less of this ‘cropped’ nonsense), so  there were quite a few Topshop items on my letter to Santa.

It might seem a bit lacking in imagination that this outfit consists entirely of Topshop clothes, but in 2012 I’ve heard from a lot of disgruntled tall girlies who have ordered Topshop pieces, only to find that they look entirely different in the flesh. So here’s what a few of them they look like on a 6ft tall girly.

Tim bought me the quilted biker, and it’s a lot more long-line than some of Topshop’s other Tall jackets. It’s not genuine leather, but it’s a pretty good faux.

I’ve always struggled to squeeze my tootsies into Topshop’s size 9s, but these go-with-everything Millicent boots (initially brought to my attention by ATTT’s reader Phillipa) are perfect.

Jacket, Topshop £58 / Jumper, Topshop £36 / Skirt, Topshop £20 / Boots,, Topshop £40 (Up to a Euro 42) / Bag Mischa Barton @ Debenhams £60

And I know they’re not a tall purchase, but I’m also a bit addicted to Mischa Barton bags. Again, faux leather but still quite expensive looking. This one has all the pockets and compartments and slouchiness a girl needs.

Did Santa bring you anything pretty? Show and tell, show and tell… 🙂
