Dated Denim

I recently saw a lovely trapeze dress in Topshop’s Tall range (see middle of pic below), that I’m pretty sure I wore to a disco in a scout hut in 1995. I was dancing to Outhere Brothers at the time and eating a push-pop.

There are a few 2013 twists on the current trend for 90s denim though; the classic denim jacket is back, but this time so is the acid-wash jumpsuit, the bodycon skirt, and just about every single style of dress imaginable; dungaree, t-shirt style or shirt.

Shade is more or less irrelevant, but blue is the colour of choice. Luckily Topshop has almost everything covered in its Tall range, so you can choose your basics from the selection below. Wear them with a roll-neck crop top, band tee, or double up and really live the denim dream.

Hello Leggy Lovelies,

Hope you had a lovely weekend.

On Sunday morning I met some friends for a yummy brunch at the National Portrait Gallery cafe. Hark at us and our civilised ways…

That’s me with the Granola (spot the boring one who knows she’ll be wearing a bikini in two weeks’ time. What a dullard.)

I dragged my hungover self out of bed and attempted to look presentable in a new pleated red dress from French Connection (£85).

It comes with a belt (that you can wear on your ACTUAL waistline, not the one given you to you by most retailers that sits awkwardly under your bust), and an additional drop-waisted skirt detail that’s great for balancing out a long-legged frame.

I bought it originally for holiday-time to wear with chunky sandals, but for this wintry April I’m accessorsing it with tights, a Zara bag, and my (ridiculously over-worn) Topshop boots and biker jacket.

Dress, French Connection £85/ Biker Jacket, Topshop £58/ Boots, Topshop £45 (Up to a Euro size 42… a large 42)/ Zara Bag £49.99

Have you ever found any long-length loveliness in French Connection? There’s actually a fab FC find coming up shortly in a reader’s Tried It On feature. Stay tuned.

Birthday Lunch

If there’s ever a time when you can eat yourself senseless, it’s your birthday (or Christmas, or a hangover day, or a Tuesday…). I turned 28 today, so I went out for a lovely lunch with the mother to celebrate.

As well as taking me out for some insanely yum grub (I recommend The Canopy in Epsom… have the duck), Mum also played photographer this morning and snapped me in her garden using my snazzy new birthday camera from the hubby.

I have a couple of new pieces to share with you, like this lovely knee-length pencil skirt from ASOS. I love the current trend for all things monochrome and geometric, and this one, with its on trend front-split (“No Mum, I know how to put my clothes on, I’m 28… it’s supposed to look like that…”) is perfect for leggy lovelies.

I’ve added an old Mango blouse and Next jacket, and accessorised with my new ASOS clutch bag.

Top, Mango/ Jacket, Next/ Skirt, ASOS £32/ Bag, ASOS £35/ Boots, Topshop (Up to a Euro 42 — a LARGE 42), £45

Now I need to decide what to wear for birthday drinks tomorrow night. Any ideas??

Tried It On: Boucle Beautiful

My name is Laura Schofield and I am addicted to jackets. Tweed ones, ruched ones, waterfall ones, ones with pretty shoulder details. I think they really add interest and texture to a tall frame and are particularly fab for this in-betweeny weather.

Please don’t think I’m a total blazer-brat. Most of them come from H+M, Primarni and — ahem — Asda, and I do wear them almost every day for work.

I usually buy cropped sleeve blazers so that the length doesn’t matter, but I was delighted when ATTT reader Fi got in touch to share this pretty Warehouse boucle that actually hits her wrists…

“I found this jacket (£65) in Warehouse at the weekend and immediately thought of your Tried It On feature when I saw how long the sleeves were.  I looked on Warehouse’s website and they say that their models are 5’10” (though they must have short legs as the 30″ inseam jeans seem to fit them OK….) which is a refreshing change from stores that use girls around 5’6″ and it might be worth your readers checking it out.  I’m 5’11” myself and you can find me blogging about tall style at”

Nice one petal, and thanks for sharing your brilliant blog.

If you’ve got a long-length clothing find to share, then drop me an email to

LTS Maxi

Hi Leggy Lovelies,

Just a quick post today — but I wanted to share my outfit because we all know how ruddy hard it is to find a maxi skirt, and I’m slightly obsessed with this electric blue pleated one (£55) from Long Tall Sally.

There are so many ways to wear it — roughed-up and casual with a biker and trainers, pretty and ethereal with beaded sandals and chunky jewellery, or even with a crisp shirt or blazer for the office.

It’s so long that  I can wear it with my heeled ankle-boots, and the elasticated waist means that you can rock it whether you’re 5’11 or 7 foot … just pull it up around your waist if you’re shorter, or wear low-slung on the hips if you’re at the taller end of tall. (You know the drill by now…)

I’ve worn it with my Topshop biker (£58) — which I seem to be wearing every day in this changeable, in-betweeny weather — and billowing butterfly-print Zara scarf (£19.99) for an extra pop of colour.

Anyone else found any pretty maxi skirts/ dresses? I’m off on my holibobs soon and looking for some seriously pretty summer frocks. Share share!

90s Grunge

Best get yourself a fizzy Panda and a Pop Tart. There’s a WHOLE lotta 90s goin’ down in this post.

Forget the bubblegum pop princess style of the Spice Girls though, because this year’s 90s trend takes inspiration from a very different scene. Think Nirvana, Hole, Mother Love Bone and Soundgarden.

Are you scared yet?

If you need some serious style inspiration, watch epic nineties films like The Craft and Cameron  Crowe’s 1992 romcom Singles. If you haven’t seen the latter, it’s a good ‘un… not least for the very cool Pearl Jam soundtrack. (My husband will give me a lot of respect points for saying that…)

I found a gorgeous skull skirt from H+M (be careful not to put your heel through it, as I nearly did a million times), and wore it with my denim Forever 21 shirt and Topshop biker.

If you’re looking for a super long-line vest (aren’t we always?), this grey one is from Miss Selfridge where you can currently buy 2 for £12.

The chunky necklace (and gold tone ring) hail from H&M, while the giant perspex cocktail ring is from Miss Selfridge.

Anyone game for grunging it up with me? And which of you leggy lovelies remember wearing this look the first time around?

Low-Fuss Party Glam

Greetings Leggy Lovelies,

If you’re after a bargain, then you’ll find a fair few in this post. 🙂

I found this electric blue “flippy hem dress” in the sale at Warehouse for 25 quid (previously £65, whatever the website may say), and it was perfect for a girly night out. Yes, it’s still quite short, but the drop-waist helps to balance out my proportions (long-ish body/ very long legs), and the high neckline manages to keep some sense of decorum. It’s also a lot more saintly than some of the other mini dresses available in the Oompa Loompa shops.

This spiked/bejewelled wonder of a statement necklace transforms a simple dress/ vest-top/ blouse and was only a tenner in the Miss Selfridge sale (previously £20). Great for bringing a party vibe to your basics.

My Topshop biker (£58) and boots (£45, available up to a Euro 42) added a bit of edge to the ensemble and hopefully stopped it from looking too girly-girly.

Ta-da. A super low-fuss party look.

I also wanted to share my latest bag purchase. I don’t usually like to dilute the tall-specific content and divert from my blog’s niche too much, but I’ve been looking for the perfect holdall forever, and I finally found an absolute beauty on the Oasis website. It’s only £55, made from a really decent leather substitute, and it’s mahoosive. Ideal for a weekend away and for lugging around all my make-up and clothes to and from work.

Hope you all have a beautiful week girlies. Anyone else bucking the dry January trend and partying even harder this month than they did in December?

Naughty naughty.

Christmas Prezzie Show and Tell

Hello gorgeous leggy lovelies,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your friends and families. I got a bit over-excited and threw on all my Christmas prezzies for today’s post.

I’ve been quite enamoured with Topshop’s Tall offerings of late (pretty circle skirts, midi dresses, snuggly jumpers and a bit less of this ‘cropped’ nonsense), so  there were quite a few Topshop items on my letter to Santa.

It might seem a bit lacking in imagination that this outfit consists entirely of Topshop clothes, but in 2012 I’ve heard from a lot of disgruntled tall girlies who have ordered Topshop pieces, only to find that they look entirely different in the flesh. So here’s what a few of them they look like on a 6ft tall girly.

Tim bought me the quilted biker, and it’s a lot more long-line than some of Topshop’s other Tall jackets. It’s not genuine leather, but it’s a pretty good faux.

I’ve always struggled to squeeze my tootsies into Topshop’s size 9s, but these go-with-everything Millicent boots (initially brought to my attention by ATTT’s reader Phillipa) are perfect.

Jacket, Topshop £58 / Jumper, Topshop £36 / Skirt, Topshop £20 / Boots,, Topshop £40 (Up to a Euro 42) / Bag Mischa Barton @ Debenhams £60

And I know they’re not a tall purchase, but I’m also a bit addicted to Mischa Barton bags. Again, faux leather but still quite expensive looking. This one has all the pockets and compartments and slouchiness a girl needs.

Did Santa bring you anything pretty? Show and tell, show and tell… 🙂

Christmas Drinks

Work drinks, girly drinks, Christmas Eve drinks in your local pub with everyone you went to school with. You need a few new outfits, but your credit card balance is already higher than the phone bill at Christopher Maloney’s nan’s house.

Thankfully you can add a bit of sparkle to your basics with Topshop’s Tall Stud Tube Skirt.

Top: Blazer, Topshop £65/ Top, Topshop £12/ Skirt, Topshop £40

Bottom: Necklace, ASOS £25/ Bag Love Moschino @ ASOS £160/ Shoes, Barefoot Tess (Up to a US size 14) £74.99

Anyone else found any pretty separates (skirts/ tops/ jackets?) that will glam up our weary wardrobes for December?

Christmas Party Countdown

Hey Leggy Lovelies,

Tis nearly the season to be sparkly and I haven’t bought a single pretty dress. So if you have any kick-ass party outfits to share then please send them my way.

In case you’re looking for full-on G.L.I.T.T.E.R — and why not spend the party season beaming like a Colombian emerald? — then here is a fancypants one from Coast (£180) that I wore for a recent shoot. I think my agent must have written the words WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT A BEEHIVE into my contract. Not that I have trouble getting under doorways in five-inch heels already or anything…

A lot of sparkly shift dresses on the highstreet are a little bit on the titchy side, but this one saves you from “doing a Madonna”. (Have you seeeeen her recent tour pics? You can’t fault the woman’s bravery, but there are some things that should be kept between you and your gynecologist).

Wear with…

Jacket, Topshop £65/ Earrings £7.50 Topshop/ Bag £35 Miss Selfridge/ Boots, Topshop £45

(I have the boots and the 42 is actually a really decent size 9).

So please let me know if there are any spingly-spangly party dresses that you are loving by emailing Share with the sisterhood…
