Write your LTS Wishlist

Have you checked out the new TTYA collection at LTS yet? It’s definitely my favourite so far, so I was very grateful when the lovely LTS team gifted me this 70s inspired outfit combo, which has already seen a classy night out at Clapham Grand with the girls and a rare date night with the hubby.

The suede skirt (£85) is the perfect mini length on a tall girly, and having a black polo jumper (£50) with sleeves that I can almost hide my hands in is another  #lifegoal realised.

The fashion choices available for extra-tall women like us have massively increased over the last few years, but there’s definitely still a long way to go. I would LOVE to see more of this sort of thing at LTS. Which brings me on to my next question. What would you like to see more of? Tall workwear? Runway-inspired evenings gowns?

If you get a spare minute, I’d love you to pop your LTS wishlist in the comments below. If you don’t mind, I’d also be really grateful if you could let me know your age as well.

P.S. This isn’t research that LTS has commissioned me to do. I just a) am nosey and b) think it’s a great way of getting our voices heard.

Tried It On: Hello Sailor!

If you’re finding all the long-length knitwear offerings a bit on the bleurgh side, then ATTT reader Laura is about to shake things up a bit.

Laura emailed me last week to say, “I’m a 5’11 curvy girl and would really like to recommend the most gorgeous jumper I found today in Lipsy. It’s long line and a lovely fit. I thought it might be something you would like to share, as it’s such a good purchase and doesn’t ride up, and covers my wrists. It’s available in size 6-16.”

anchor jumper

A little bit kitsch, a LOT sparkly… it’s the knitwear equivalent of a Lulu Guiness handbag and I love it. It’s available in Lipsy stores and online at Very (the latter of which is having site maintenance done today so I can’t share a link… but it’s £35 on there and £44 in Littlewoods so I didn’t want to send you to the wrong place!)

Found some long-length items on the highstreet? Email them to laura@allthetallthings.com or tweet @tallthings, and share them with your fellow leggy lovelies. 🙂

The Winter Pencil Skirt

Hey Leggy Lovelies,

I always find that winter is the trickiest season to dress for when you’re a tall woman. Perhaps it’s because the need to find anything with long enough sleeves makes it nigh on impossible to achieve a chic and tailored look. Perhaps because knee-high boots are never knee-high. Perhaps because you just need to wear even more clothes, and the expensive specialist clothes we often require become even more ruddy expensive.

But this year the highstreet seems to be heaped full of prettiness for the leggier lovely. This tartan skirt is my fave piece in Topshop’s current Tall collection. Super long and stretchy without being too flimsy or clingy, and you could obviously make it look mega sexy for work too if you wear it with a nice blouse and pair of black courts. Go for the size down if you’re between sizes.

I paired it with this cutesy Topshop tee, but It just wasn’t quite warm enough, so I threw on my husband’s jumper (from Next, long enough in the sleeves and surprisingly fitted in a medium). He doesn’t know I’ve stolen it and won’t find out until he reads this blog post on the train home. Sorry Tim. I promise to wash it so it doesn’t smell like girl.

COIN

The bling ring and bracelet are from Marc Jacobs’ Greenwich village boutique (a must-visit if you’re over in NYC, for its edgy and surprisingly affordable pieces), and the Michael Kors watch was a Christmas prezzie from the hubby. The Lucky penny necklace is still available at ASOS.

BAG ACCESSORIES

BOOTS

I’m living in various forms of ankle boot at the moment. These chunky could-be-weapons-of-torture are from Topshop. A little tight for a size 9 when they first arrived, bit a few walks around the house have stretched them out a bit.

Tartan skirt, Topshop £24/ Boots, Topshop £88/ Jacket, Topshop/ Jumper, Next £35/ Necklace, ASOS £6/ Other jewellery, from a selection at Michael Kors and Marc Jacobs.

What’s your go-to outfit when the weather gets chillier?

Natty Knits

Knitwear has never been nattier. Brocade prints, sparkly embellishments and fine gauge panelling (see this pretty Topshop cardi) have made winter woolies dance-floor ready.

H+M do some great fitted knits in longer lengths at the moment. I’ve been adding them to my staple collared shirt/statement necklace combo for this season.

Leggy Lust: The New Look Reindeer Jumper

So you’ve probably heard that for her latest installment of Bridget Jones’s diary, Helen Fielding has deemed it acceptable to kill off Mr Darcy. Ri-donc-ulous.

So in memory of everyone’s favourite awkward posh crumpet, here’s a reindeer jumper. It’s probably waaaaaay too early to be using the C-word, but this is in the Tall range and it LIGHTS UP when you walk. I’m sold.

Thanks Trish for the recommendation. It lands on the New Look site next week and costs £29.99.

Christmas Prezzie Show and Tell

Hello gorgeous leggy lovelies,

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your friends and families. I got a bit over-excited and threw on all my Christmas prezzies for today’s post.

I’ve been quite enamoured with Topshop’s Tall offerings of late (pretty circle skirts, midi dresses, snuggly jumpers and a bit less of this ‘cropped’ nonsense), so  there were quite a few Topshop items on my letter to Santa.

It might seem a bit lacking in imagination that this outfit consists entirely of Topshop clothes, but in 2012 I’ve heard from a lot of disgruntled tall girlies who have ordered Topshop pieces, only to find that they look entirely different in the flesh. So here’s what a few of them they look like on a 6ft tall girly.

Tim bought me the quilted biker, and it’s a lot more long-line than some of Topshop’s other Tall jackets. It’s not genuine leather, but it’s a pretty good faux.

I’ve always struggled to squeeze my tootsies into Topshop’s size 9s, but these go-with-everything Millicent boots (initially brought to my attention by ATTT’s reader Phillipa) are perfect.

Jacket, Topshop £58 / Jumper, Topshop £36 / Skirt, Topshop £20 / Boots,, Topshop £40 (Up to a Euro 42) / Bag Mischa Barton @ Debenhams £60

And I know they’re not a tall purchase, but I’m also a bit addicted to Mischa Barton bags. Again, faux leather but still quite expensive looking. This one has all the pockets and compartments and slouchiness a girl needs.

Did Santa bring you anything pretty? Show and tell, show and tell… 🙂

Pretty Boy Jumpers

Can’t find a Christmas knit with enough wool to cover your mince-pie midriff?

I’ve raided the boy shops to find pretty alpine-knits in longer lengths. They’ll look so sweet with a pair of skinnies or a circle skirt, that no one will know you’ve been shopping in Burton or mingling with the One Direction clones in Topman. I LOVE the red ‘n’ white reindeer one.

Top Left: New Look Men/ Middle: Burton/ Bottom: Topman

Or you can head to Topshop’s Tall range for this pretty holly-print number (£50).

Pass me another mince pie please…

“Remember I told ya, I’m a soldier…”

… So said Lisa Maffia. Remember her?

Anyhoo, that’s not really the point. Although I reckon if you do remember the song, it’ll be stuck in your head all the way through this post.

Thanks to the likes of Burberry and Topshop Unique, the military trend is back. Think camouflage, khaki and army jackets, but sexed up Rihanna style with wet-look leggings and studs.

Top L-R: Tall Jumper, Topshop £42/ Tall Jacket, Topshop £75/ Tall Jacket, Topshop £48 Middle L-R: Boots, Long Tall Sally £150 (Up to a UK 11)/ Necklace, ASOS £10/ Tall Leggings, Dorothy Perkins £18 Bottom L-R: Tunic, Topshop £22/ Boots, Amber & Jade £169 (Up to a UK 11)/ Bag, Urban Outfitters £45

Another great (and usually cheap) place to find bits and pieces for this trend is an Army Surplus store. (Have a Google to find your local shop). A few years ago my uni house-mates and I sourced some camouflage shirts, bullet-holders and berets from one to wear to Exeter’s annual… um… fetish ball. (Does every uni have one of those or did I just go to a weird one?)

The Olympics. Are you addicted?

I really thought I’d just watch the opening ceremony, dip into a couple of the games and mostly have a little whinge about the extra traffic in London. But now I’m completely possessed by this Olympic spirit.

I’ve suddenly became a beach Volleyball expert. And started looking forward to the athletics. And I’m throwing an Olympic-themed barbecue on Saturday. I’m an addict.

This morning things got a little out of hand. I found myself sitting in my living room (by myself I might add) glued to the television, experiencing heart palpitations and and generally screaming my throat raw as I watched rowing leggy lovelies Helen Glover (6’1) and Heather Stanning (5’11) storm to victory in the Women’s Pair Final.

26-year-old Glover’s story is particularly inspiring; she hadn’t even stepped onto a boat until hearing about a new scheme called “Sporting Giants” — a drive by the UK Talent Team to find tall men and women who could potentially become the next set of Olympians. So in 2008 (yes, that was just FOUR years ago — I Kissed a Girl and Sex on Fire were in the charts, so pretty much yesterday), she started rowing and began her journey towards winning the first British gold medal in the London 2012 Olympics. Wow. Take note little leggy lovelies. That could well be you.

So to celebrate a serious triumph of the Tall, I thought I’d drop in a few patriotic pieces to add to your wardrobes — all made with champion-sized limbs in mind.

Clockwise from Top-Left: Pumps (Up to a Euro 44) £130, French Sole , Striped Top, Long Tall Sally £28, Camden Jeans, Long Tall Sally £50, Shoes (Up to a Euro 43), Irregular Choice £59.99, Peplum Dress, Topshop £48, Union Jack Sweater, Topshop £46.

Don’t forget that Anna Watkins will be rowing in the Double Sculls final with her partner Katherine Grainger on Friday. You can catch my interview with her here, where she talks heels, confidence and going for gold. (Now I’m super excited about the fact that I’ve interviewed an Olympian. Go me).

One Black Maxi, Three Chic Ways

Maxi skirt, Tallgirls.co.uk £29

Take one long-length Maxi skirt (I’ve used this lovely jersey one from tallgirls.co.uk… it has a stretchy waistband so you can wear it as high or as low as you choose) and style it up for three very different days out…
